Updated September 4th, 2015

Are you up for a hike to two of the most incredible spots for a spot of tea that you’ll ever see? Then you may be ready for the Lake Louise Tea House Highline Challenge here in Banff National Park.

The Tea House Highline Challenge

Starting at the Lake Louise shoreline nestled next to the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, you can hike first to the Plain Of Six Glaciers Tea House (5.5km) or the Lake Agnes Tea House (3.5km). Wherever you choose to go first, you will have an incredible 4.1 km ‘Highline’ trek to the second tea house, for a total hike of around 14km once you return to Lake Louise.

Visit both the Lake Agnes Tea House and the Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House in the same day and with proof of purchase from either tea house you will receive a special discounted Hikers Challenge Tea and certificate of your awesomeness.

The Tea House Highline Challenge runs during the Lake Louise WonderFall festival, from September 5th through October 12th, 2015. For a full list of activities, special packages and events, please click here.

Lovely video, but at 1:04 you got your beehives mixed up. It’s the big beehive that’s behind mirror lake. :)

    • Real Banff October 3, 2011 Reply

Aye! The big beehive! The host has been given a map for any future hikes:)

Great video, have not been to Canada so hope to go in 2012, been wanting to go for 15 years, meet the people and experiance the scenery.

We have done loop this 3 times in the past, even with our children when they were 9 and 13. The chocolate cake is only slightly less amazing than the scenery!

    • Real Banff October 3, 2011 Reply

And, the hike will burn off those chocloate cake calories!

  4. may September 13, 2011 Reply

Would love to do the Tea House ride with my daughter! And the chocolate cake we gotta taste! Never visited Banff in fall.

    • Real Banff October 3, 2011 Reply

Put it on the bucket list! The cake is worth it.

I am really hoping to get up there this year yet. Can’t believe the summer is gone already..

    • Real Banff October 3, 2011 Reply

We hear you! The teahouses will be waiting for you next season if you can’t make it this year:)

Hiked this route many times and each time I thank whatever higher power is out there for giving me the opportunity to live in Alberta and experience all it has to offer.

Looking forward to taking up the challenge on either 20 or 21 Sept. Will have to drive from Canmore. What time is the latest you recommend starting?

  8. Jill August 30, 2012 Reply

What are the hours of the tea houses? And how long would the round trip take with two kids?

The Lake Agnes tea house is open from 10am to 5:30pm. The hike time can vary, depending on the age of the kids/weather/hiking experience. I would say allow for 4-6 hours. It’s around 15 km’s to do the loop.

What are the hours for the Plains of Six Glaciers Teahouse?

  12. Cheyenne September 12, 2012 Reply

Hi! I completed the challenge last Saturday (September 8th) and while I was only about #170 or so on the register at both tea houses, and while Lake Agnes had tons of magnets, the Plain of Six Glaciers tea house were out of magnets…so now I only have half! Is it possible that you have more of the Six Glaciers magnets kicking around and could send it to me? I know it sounds silly but that was my first big solo hike since having my twins a year ago, and I was looking forward to a momento!

Did you get the certificate (as shown in the video) at the Plain of Six Glaciers tea house?

  13. UttRai September 13, 2012 Reply

Hi! My husband and I plan to complete the challenge this weekend. Which tea-house do you suggest we visit first? What is the level of difficulty like and how long would the entire hike take (We have done just one hike before – The Valley of Five Lakes in Jasper, so we’re not exactly experienced hikers)?

      How did your hike go!?

  15. UttRai September 18, 2012 Reply

Hi again! That’s alright, and we DID manage to complete the challenge on Saturday (Sep 15). My husband works out at the gym but I’m not into fitness at all and every muscle in body ached for two days! But it was such a wonderful experience. Although the climb uphill was pretty difficult, both of us thoroughly enjoyed the hike! What we liked most was the view from the Big Beehive viewpoint. However, we faced the same problem as Cheyenne above. We were #268 or so to register at both tea-houses but got the magnet only from the Lake Agnes one. Six Glaciers were out of magnets and now we are left with just half of the magnet! Would really appreciate if you could mail us the other half as well.

We did the Lake Agnes Tea House hike last weekend. We skipped the TeaHouse and continued to hike and had the experience of a life time!

  17. Carol October 9, 2012 Reply

My husband and I completed the challenge a couple of weeks ago. It was a tough, but beautiful hike. We got our magnets at Lake Agnes, but, as everyone says above, Six Glaciers was out. I would love the have the set, so if there they decide to produce some more, I would love to get a couple.

My wife and I completed the Challenge on the 22 Sept and collected fridge magnets from both teahouses. I left early to take photos and my wife left the 6 glaciers halves on the table when she left. Any chance of making the 2 1/2 teapots we have whole?

Hi, Fred. All of the magnets were distributed, but I will have a look to see if anyone has an extra magnet.
Please email me at and we can get your address to send it to you after we (hopefully) find two more.

My sister and I are heading out on the tea house challenge next weekend and I was wondering if there was a pre made map I can print out with the trails, including beehives etc. marked?

    Thank you!!
