Summer Wrap-Up

By Shirley the Dog Blogger

Ok, here is my summer update from life in Banff National Park. Anyone who read my last entry will know that I know that the deer and elk conspire against me (see blog here). I am adding two more species to that list, namely geese and whatever species is the bald guy who feeds me.

Let’s start with the geese. This is the goose (below, left) that hangs out at Two Jack Lake in Banff. Obnoxious to the extreme, this goose made a run at me for no other reason than the fact that I justly questioned his Canadianness – when we both know he spends his winters in Florida. The goose then tried to ambush me from the reeds at Vermillion Lakes (right).

The second new species joining the deer and elk on my ’enough is enough’ list is the guy that feeds me and steals all of my extra fur on his clothes and jackets. He thinks that because I let him pick up after me, that HE can pick me up and manhandle me for any photo he chooses. Like this shot, looking over Lake Louise (below, left). Listen, guy-dogs only want to be airborne if it’s of their own accord. And this photo op on a coal train at Lower Bankhead off Banff’s Minnewanka Road (below, middle)? Yea, I didn’t just jump on that train. I was molested on to it…

I mean, why can’t he treat me with the gentleness of a Jane Goodall!? BTW-Doctor Goodall-yes that Jane Goodall-is speaking at the Banff Centre on October 21st.

Even in a simple photo from the top of Banff’s Tunnel Mountain, he feels he has to create the impression that I’m waving (below, left). Dog’s don’t wave. Actually, you know how dogs do ’wave’? We pee on something. THEN he went and put me in the worst boat ever, out at Johnson Lake (below, right).

These two photos below I don’t even want to get in to, on advice from my lawyers while I look into litigation against this ‘real Banff’ guy. Needless to say I wasn’t too pleased with the outfit or the super-skinny cougar.

There were some great highlights, though. I went on a nice hike to the Lake Louise Teahouses with my buddy, Rambo the Pug.

I went fishing quite a few times and met this super cool American, Shannon (below right) , who I met on twitter. She’s @SeaSunDodger. Shannon took me on a few awesome hikes and brought gourmet treats from Seattle.

Finally, this last photo shows just how childish the deer and elk can be in the park. Apparently they are in no hurry to reach an armistace with me. Imagine an elk mooning you, on YOUR favourite trail, in broad daylight. I’m still not sure what your problem is with me, elk, but I am watching you…

Author bio - A little bit about me-I dislike squirrels, and support the de-clawing of all house cats. I’ll be taking my owner and his strange friends on some pretty cool adventures in the world’s finest national park. Also-in any photos in this blog where I appear to have no leash on, I am actually tied to some very high test fishing line. Looks better on film.
